A relatively quick shot I took in the @deitycompon A relatively quick shot I took in the @deitycomponents studio the other day. While I was getting ready to shoot this image I thought it might be interesting to see a little Behind the Scenes of creating the steam, so I made a video of the whole process including editing the two images together. You can find it at the link in my bio.

The Doubleshot mug shot was fairly basic, I used two gridded strip lights, one on each side, and a light above and slightly to the front with a 10 degree grid. For the steam I kept the same lighting but increased the EV (Exposure Value) by 5 2/3 stops, turning the ISO up to 5000. Changing the Shutter Speed doesn't really change the exposure for an image that is only flash lit, and I could only open the Aperture 3 stops to 2.8.

Then I combined the two images in Photoshop using a layer mask and lighten blending mode on the steam layer.

Any questions? Let me know in the comments.

Been having a lot of fun playing with color lately Been having a lot of fun playing with color lately. Color studies and variations. The Copperhead Stem comes in a bunch of different colors, so... How often do you use a color wheel? Understanding color theory and relationships is an important part of creating images.

Been a long time since I shot snowboard photos, or Been a long time since I shot snowboard photos, or any snow photos for that matter. More than 20 years... Which is weird because before I started shooting bike snow used to be my life. Time to get back into it!

Good times up at @bogusbasin today! A little more snow would be nice, but more than enough to have fun. @cheddarchild dropping.

I love playing in the studio! Fresh @deitycomponen I love playing in the studio! Fresh @deitycomponents Copperhead Stem shot from today.

Someone asked me what shooting table I use in the studio for my product work. Turns out I'm not really into expensive photography tables, I just use a couple of plastic sawhorses that I picked up for $30 and a couple of 2x4's. I can put whatever tabletop I want on this, sometimes a sheet of white plexi with a light underneath, sometimes just something like an old pallet on top for this particular shot. I can turn it into whatever I need.
