NW Cup and Pro GRT in Port Angeles

Last weekend I was in Port Angeles, Washington for the Northwest Cup and the first of the Pro GRT Downhill races. With the volcano in Iceland spewing ash into the air above Europe a lot of flights had been cancelled and many of the DH athletes that had been in California for the Sea Otter Classic decided to head to PA while waiting for a flight back to Europe to continue the World Cup circuit. I was shooting for the Trek World Racing team who had planned to attend all along, but the added competition definitely made the event more…

Trek World Racing Team Camp

I just returned from shooting the Trek World Racing Team (TWR) in Phoenix, and while I can’t show you any photos at the moment, I can tell you a bit about the shoot. The shoot was for a few different purposes, and I was happy to have Trek’s Art Director, Paul Rogers on hand to keep everything going in the direction he needed. We shot images of all the XC and DH riders on the team that will end up being used for everything from ads to postcards and catalog. The postcards are for Sea Otter and they needed to…

Point Roberts Fire Department

Point Roberts Fire Department. I’d been asked by my friend Nick Kiniski to come by and take a few shots of the whole crew on a day when everyone was there, and yesterday ended up being the day. I didn’t really have any idea what to expect so I brought 2 large softboxes and 3 640WS Alien Bees lights. The weather here yesterday was bright and sunny and the 11AM time slot gave us a line of sunlight  and shade right through the parking lot we were using. And because we wanted to have the truck in the shot we…

Fox Racing 2010 Dealer Book

Back in May of this year I traveled to New Jersey to shoot the Fox Bike 2010 Dealer Workbook. I had wanted to write a post about it then but decided I would wait until the workbook was actually done. A few days ago I received it in the mail. The theme of the catalog was dark, or night, and the direction for the shoot was that all the images were supposed to look like light flash lit shots at night. Logistically there were a few problems to overcome with this idea. It would have been easiest to achieve this…

Bike Mag Cover

Last month I got something really exciting in the mail, Bike Magazine, and for the second time in my life I had a photo on the cover of it. What set this cover apart for me was that it was shot at 1/500th of a second with flash. See my post on Camera Sync Speed and Flash for more details. The Details: This was shot at 1/500 f5 with a Nikon D2Xs. I used 2 Nikon SB800’s set to manual 1/2 power and mounted on a single stand. I can’t remember exactly what the zoom was set at but I…
