I needed to shoot a few more photos of the new Mint color of the Niner RIP 9 RDO, so Nate and I headed up to a friends trails to shoot a little bit of sunset action. Small batch trails is on a south facing hillside, so it gets perfect evening light. We got there a little early so we could check things out, and so I’d have a bit of time to play with my new Elinchrom HS head and EL-Skyport Plus HS Transmitter for my Sony A7rii. You can find a more in depth post about Elinchrom High Speed Sync with my Quadra pack and Sony A7rii here.

These three shots were taken early on in the afternoon before the light got all warm and fuzzy. I used my Elinchrom Quadra with the HS head to light Nate while shooting at up to 1/1600 with no problems. Stoked! After playing around with the flash for a bit, we took a break and waited for the light to get good, and it didn’t take long. For the first bit we tried a few different things in a few different locations, but in the end the light dictated that this one right hand berm was going to be the best shot. The sun came straight at it, lighting it up all golden like. The first time Nate hit it hard he threw up a beautiful backlit dust cloud, but that’s all the dust there was. We tried a few more times to get that golden cloud, but it was hopeless. The light was great though, and we didn’t really need it.
