I spend a fair bit of time walking, running, and cycling around the Riverbend Ponds natural area near my home. It’s a beautiful area, and one that I could shoot photos in almost every day.
These images were shot with my friend Kacee Ruzicka on a boardwalk that runs through a swampy area, an area that is full of reeds and cattails. I love the way they all light up in the morning sun.
Edit: I went back and re-edited these two images for a slightly different look. Many photographers talk about their “Presets” and while I have some that I use as starting points, I never just apply a standard look to a photo. Every photo is different, and while certain groups of images might use the same settings, it’s something that I spend a lot of time on. Different looks can also suit different uses, and it’s not unusual for a client to specify a certain look for images in their briefing. They might have a look or feel that they’re trying to achieve in a catalog or campaign, or they might have a very specific look and composition they need for an ad that has already been mostly finished.
Let me know what you think of these in the comments. Do you like the look?
